Starting a Blog

Wordpress now has an auto update feature.  While this makes the inline update process easier, there’s still much to be said for a hosted blog solution.

Hosted blogs allow you to focus on the blog and someone else the blog software.

Wordpress 2.7.1 will give users a a very comfortable interface.  The admin panel is begining to look much more like a cms administrators control dashboard.

Wordpress 2.7 Release Candidate Two

It’s not quite that time yet, but we’re as close as we’ve ever been, hence the immediate availability of 2.7 Release Candidate 2, or RC2 for short.

Upgrading to Wordpress 2.7

Upgrading from any previous WordPress to 2.7:
1) Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified.
2) Upload the new files.
3) Point your browser to /wp-admin/upgrade.php.

There are some very powerful social tools that every blogger should be using.

Digg, Mixx, Twitter, and LinkedIn are some fast growth social networking tools that represent an opportunity for every blogger.

In addition to these tools, a Facebook account will help you to build some core traffic to your blog.  Facebook has many times the traffic of the above tools and is now taking over myspace in terms of trend growth.

Myspace had it’s place and was the leader in drawing our social media participants.

So get your accounts setup on these tools and put the badges on your blog.

Just a quick post today about two links to Wordpress tips, tricks, and hacks.

These most wanted (second list) of ideas I through were very nice and might even answer some questions for people starting their blog.

The other thing you’ll notice about the hongkiat.com site is the excellent design.  The Wordpress tips links have enough detail to easily take a suggestion and there are resources for further reading on the site.  I’m glad I found this site as it looks like they do a great job on covering the design and graphics space.  Any designer starting a wordpress blog will want to visit.
